Book Spine

Did you know that books have spines just like people have spines!? It’s the part of the book where all the pages come together – and a lot of times that’s where the title is so we can see it easily when it’s on a shelf. Sophie and Sadie sure do have a lot of books they are looking at in the library! I think I’m starting to understand what they are planning to do this summer! Click on the […]

Library

More research! Computers are one way to do research and books are another way – and they are just fun to read as well. Libraries are so amazing – and did you know that there are more libraries in the US than there are McDonald’s restaurants?! Lists!

Sophie and Sadie are making their walls look like mine – full of lists! I’m still not sure what they are up to. What do you think? Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Computer

I have a feeling Sophie and Sadie are hatching a plan and doing some research on the computer. There really isn’t much to say about computers, other then we’re glad they exist so we can be in touch with you! Daffodils

Yay for Spring! Beautiful yellow flowers everywhere – dandelions and daffodils. Although daffodils also come in white and orange and even lime-green and pink! Daffodils bring happiness – and they also bring poison! Make sure you put them in a vase of their own or the sap in their stalk will kill the other flowers. Dandelions

It’s spring! Dandelions are such a fun happy sign of spring. Not so long ago, people used to want dandelions to grow in their yards! They are useful as food, medicine, and dye for coloring. The name comes from the French and means ‘teeth of the lion’ because the leaves are jagged like a lion’s teeth! Pine Cones

Seeds for growing new trees grow in the pine cone. They start off soft and green and sticky and then grow into hard brown cones to protect the seeds. After a few years, they open up and the wind blows the seeds out! Pine cones come in all different sizes – from as small as your little finger to as long as your arm and from weighing almost nothing to weighing 10 pounds! The ones Sophie and Sadie found look […]

Hiking through the pine trees

Looks like Sophie and Sadie found a beautiful place to go hiking. Pine trees are so tall and strong – and have a lovely smell. Instead of big leaves that fall off in the winter, the leaves of pine trees are shaped like needles and they stay on all year. The shape is perfect for wintertime, since the snow slides right off! Carrots

Carrots are a root vegetable – so the colorful crunchy part that we usually eat is hidden under ground. Usually they are orange, but they can also be red, yellow, white, or purple! I’ve had all of the colors and I can tell you they don’t taste exactly the same. People have been eating carrots for at least 4,000 years, but they’ve only been eating orange carrots for about 400 years. Orange carrots were developed by Dutch carrot growers for […]

Pie Contest

Sophie and Sadie are off to the county fair – and I’m not surprised that they found the pie contest, but I am a little concerned that they are going to get in trouble for eating the pies! What’s your favorite flavor of pie? Did you know that in the 1600’s eating pies was against the law in England because people enjoyed it too much!? Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and […]
