Museum – sculpture, Oval with Points

I’m not sure how Sophie and Sadie got to the sculpture without walking on the grass – I also don’t know how they managed to climb it! Oval with Points, which this sculpture looks like, was done by the artist Henry Moore. It’s pretty big as you can see – and made of bronze. He wanted his art to be outside for people to enjoy (although probably not climb on!) instead of in museums. Can you see where the points […]

Pumpkin picking

Looks like Max found the pumpkin he wants. He’s pretty strong! Although the biggest pumpkin is about the size of a full sized Polar bear, so in comparison it’s pretty small. Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Hockey

Did you know that before ice hockey pucks were invented, frozen cow poop was used as a puck!  Wow, the things we learn.  There are lots of different ways to play hockey – on ice, on roller skates, on the street, under water, with a ball, with a puck… Sophie and Max are playing street hockey – looks like fun! Building a hut

I actually think that they are building a fort – but they told me it’s a hut, so that’s what we’re calling it. It is pretty amazing how we can make places to stay safe and warm and dry out of just about anything. Max just moved into the neighborhood – they all seem to be cooperating and are certainly doing a good job building the hut! Apple picking

It’s apple picking time where we live! Sadie must be picking apples from a dwarf (shorter) apple tree since she’s pretty short. What do you think she’s going to do with them? One other fun fact about apples – the Chinese word for apple is pronounced ‘ping’ which also means peace. kayaking

I just learned to kayak this week and now Sophie’s giving it a try. It’s hard work! But it’s nice and quiet and calm – and that’s just why the native people near the arctic circle invented kayaks about 4,000 years ago. Being so quiet made hunting easier! Now people mostly kayak for fun. Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

tire swing!

Wow – this is really a fun swing! Don’t you wish you were on it with Sophie and Sadie? There are so many old tires that are starting to be recycled in very cool ways – as tire swings, of course!, and also under playgrounds to make the ground softer and more bouncy and also mixed into the asphalt on highways to make them last longer. Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, […]

swinging

It’s summer where we live – and that means playing in the park and swinging on the swing set! I wonder if Sadie is going to get to swing next?! It is so cool that there are drawings of women and kids swinging on swing sets on ancient Greek vases. Fireworks!

Since fireworks are so much fun and it’s going to the 4th of July in America this weekend, Sadie is off to the fireworks. Wish I could get such a great seat!!! Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Crested Saguaro

Grandpa Al looks pretty cranky, but he’s’pretty fun! Crested Saguaros are very rare – scientists don’t know what causes the cresting – maybe lighting, maybe freeze damage – but it sure is cool!  I think it makes them look like cauliflower.
