Pumpkin picking

Looks like Max found the pumpkin he wants. He’s pretty strong! Although the biggest pumpkin is about the size of a full sized Polar bear, so in comparison it’s pretty small. Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Pumpkin

It’s definitely pumpkin season – pumpkins pumpkins everywhere. Pumpkins come in different colors – orange, of course, and also red, green, white, and yellow.  They can grow pretty big – this one is just the perfect size for Sadie to rest against. Building a hut

I actually think that they are building a fort – but they told me it’s a hut, so that’s what we’re calling it. It is pretty amazing how we can make places to stay safe and warm and dry out of just about anything. Max just moved into the neighborhood – they all seem to be cooperating and are certainly doing a good job building the hut! One other fun fact about apples – the Chinese word for apple is pronounced ‘ping’ which also means peace. Walking through a cornfield is so cool!  The corn this time of year is really tall and it makes a beautiful music as the wind goes through it. It also has a lovely smell. Did you know that there is corn grown on every continent in the world except for Antarctica?! Honey Bee

There is a lot of concern lately because the honey bee population is getting smaller. One of the problems is that there are more and more places that honey bees can’t live because there aren’t enough flowers and yummy things for them to eat. Glad these bees are finding some pollen (that is what is sticking […]

Crested Saguaro

Grandpa Al looks pretty cranky, but he’s’pretty fun! Crested Saguaros are very rare – scientists don’t know what causes the cresting – maybe lighting, maybe freeze damage – but it sure is cool!  I think it makes them look like cauliflower.
