Building a hut

I actually think that they are building a fort – but they told me it’s a hut, so that’s what we’re calling it. It is pretty amazing how we can make places to stay safe and warm and dry out of just about anything. Max just moved into the neighborhood – they all seem to be cooperating and are certainly doing a good job building the hut! Apple cider

Sophie is working hard making apple cider. It takes 36 apples squeezed through the apple press to make one gallon of apple cider. Sadie must be tired from picking apples! Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Apple picking

It’s apple picking time where we live! Sadie must be picking apples from a dwarf (shorter) apple tree since she’s pretty short. What do you think she’s going to do with them? One other fun fact about apples – the Chinese word for apple is pronounced ‘ping’ which also means peace. Honey Bee

Did you know that honey bees are responsible for pollinating about 80% of all of the fruits, vegetables, and seeds in the United States? There is a lot of concern lately because the honey bee population is getting smaller. One of the problems is that there are more and more places that honey bees can’t live because there aren’t enough flowers and yummy things for them to eat. Glad these bees are finding some pollen (that is what is sticking […]

kayaking

I just learned to kayak this week and now Sophie’s giving it a try. It’s hard work! But it’s nice and quiet and calm – and that’s just why the native people near the arctic circle invented kayaks about 4,000 years ago. Being so quiet made hunting easier! Now people mostly kayak for fun. Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

tire swing!

Wow – this is really a fun swing! Don’t you wish you were on it with Sophie and Sadie? There are so many old tires that are starting to be recycled in very cool ways – as tire swings, of course!, and also under playgrounds to make the ground softer and more bouncy and also mixed into the asphalt on highways to make them last longer. swinging

It’s summer where we live – and that means playing in the park and swinging on the swing set! I wonder if Sadie is going to get to swing next?! It is so cool that there are drawings of women and kids swinging on swing sets on ancient Greek vases. Fireworks!

Since fireworks are so much fun and it’s going to the 4th of July in America this weekend, Sadie is off to the fireworks. Wish I could get such a great seat!!! Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Crested Saguaro

Grandpa Al looks pretty cranky, but he’s’pretty fun! Crested Saguaros are very rare – scientists don’t know what causes the cresting – maybe lighting, maybe freeze damage – but it sure is cool!  I think it makes them look like cauliflower. Agave cactus

Loving meeting Sadie’s cactus family. Aunt Tabitha was so happy for the visit. I love her cat-eye glasses! Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!
