Cornucopia

It’s Thanksgiving in the US next week and that means we are seeing a lot of cornucopias (also called Horn of Plenty) in gifts and decorations. But cornucopias were being used long before anyone had heard about Thanksgiving – the Ancient Greeks were the first we know of who made cornucopias to show off their harvest of food and flowers. Pumpkin time!

Sophie and Sadie are wandering through a pumpkin patch – just in time for Halloween! There are lots of different kinds of pumpkins – some are better for eating and some are better for carving. They are native to North America, but now they are grown on every continent except for Antarctica! Apple picking

One of the fun things to do where we live in the Fall is to go apple picking – and apple tasting! There are so many different kinds of apples in the world that if you tasted a different kind every day it would take you 20 years to taste them all! Pie Contest

Sophie and Sadie are off to the county fair – and I’m not surprised that they found the pie contest, but I am a little concerned that they are going to get in trouble for eating the pies! What’s your favorite flavor of pie? Did you know that in the 1600’s eating pies was against the law in England because people enjoyed it too much!? Lemonade Stand

I know that it’s summer when I see lemonade stands popping up! I don’t know about where you live, but where we live it’s really hot and lemonade is the perfect drink to cool down. There is evidence that people were drinking lemonade in Egypt a long time ago (1500 years ago!) – which I can understand…it’s really hot there! I’m wondering if Sadie is going to drink all of the lemonade! Click on the image below, or click here, to open […]

Sophie and Sadie are trying to decide which seeds to buy. What are your favorite vegetables? Pumpkin picking

Looks like Max found the pumpkin he wants. He’s pretty strong! Although the biggest pumpkin is about the size of a full sized Polar bear, so in comparison it’s pretty small. Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Pumpkin

It’s definitely pumpkin season – pumpkins pumpkins everywhere. Pumpkins come in different colors – orange, of course, and also red, green, white, and yellow.  They can grow pretty big – this one is just the perfect size for Sadie to rest against. Apple picking

It’s apple picking time where we live! Sadie must be picking apples from a dwarf (shorter) apple tree since she’s pretty short. What do you think she’s going to do with them? One other fun fact about apples – the Chinese word for apple is pronounced ‘ping’ which also means peace. Honey Bee

Did you know that honey bees are responsible for pollinating about 80% of all of the fruits, vegetables, and seeds in the United States? There is a lot of concern lately because the honey bee population is getting smaller. One of the problems is that there are more and more places that honey bees can’t live because there aren’t enough flowers and yummy things for them to eat. Glad these bees are finding some pollen (that is what is sticking […]
