Pine Cones

Seeds for growing new trees grow in the pine cone. They start off soft and green and sticky and then grow into hard brown cones to protect the seeds. After a few years, they open up and the wind blows the seeds out!

Pine cones come in all different sizes – from as small as your little finger to as long as your arm and from weighing almost nothing to weighing 10 pounds! The ones Sophie and Sadie found look bigger than a lot of ones I usually see.
