Mesa Verde National Park

Off to Mesa Verde (green table in Spanish) National Park in Colorado! Native Americans built these pueblos (cliff dwellings) into the cliffs – partly to work with the sun. The angle of the sun in the winter warmed the stone buildings that many families lived in together and in the summer when the sun was higher in the sky, the cliffs protected the buildings from getting too hot! The Native Americans used ladders to climb up into the buildings (there are about 600 of these cliff dwellings in the park!).
