Library

More research! Computers are one way to do research and books are another way – and they are just fun to read as well. Libraries are so amazing – and did you know that there are more libraries in the US than there are McDonald’s restaurants?! Lists!

Sophie and Sadie are making their walls look like mine – full of lists! I’m still not sure what they are up to. What do you think? Click on the image below, or click here, to open the coloring page, then download, print, and start coloring!

Computer

I have a feeling Sophie and Sadie are hatching a plan and doing some research on the computer. There really isn’t much to say about computers, other then we’re glad they exist so we can be in touch with you! Grocery cart

What do you think Sophie and Sadie are buying at the grocery store!? Did you know that it used to be that when you went to the grocery store you handed your list to a clerk who would put everything together for you. That was when there were 800 items in grocery stores instead of 40,000! In 1916, a Piggly Wiggly in Tennessee was the first grocery store that let people do the shopping themselves. Sledding!

Sleds have been around for a long time! The Inuit people (we used to call them Eskimos but they prefer Inuit) made sleds out of whale bones – but mostly sleds are made out of wood or metal or plastic. Of course, you can sled down a snowy hill on top of just about anything flat, like a big piece of cardboard or a cookie tray! The sled Sophie and Sadie are on looks like it’s plastic to me! Click […]

Elevator

Elevators have been around for a long time – but they weren’t always powered by electricity! In the ancient Roman Colosseum, there were 24 elevators that were powered by slaves pulling ropes. There is even evidence of elevators in ancient Egypt and even earlier. Looks like Sophie and Sadie are going up – but to where? Opening the door to

Where do you think Sophie and Sadie are going? That’s a pretty big door! Not as big as the one in Florida at the NASA Kennedy Space Center. That door is so big (456 feet or 139 meters) that it takes 45 minutes to open or close them! Super Moon

Sunset, moon rising – both are so amazing. This week was the supermoon, with the moon as close as it will be to the earth until 2034! I’m glad Sophie and Sadie didn’t miss it! Did you know that scientists believe that after the earth was created a huge object flying around the universe hit the earth and bounced out into space and became our moon. Wow. Pine Cones

Seeds for growing new trees grow in the pine cone. They start off soft and green and sticky and then grow into hard brown cones to protect the seeds. After a few years, they open up and the wind blows the seeds out! Pine cones come in all different sizes – from as small as your little finger to as long as your arm and from weighing almost nothing to weighing 10 pounds! The ones Sophie and Sadie found look […]

Sophie and the Gymnastics Vault

I had a feeling that gymnastics was going to be Sophie’s favorite Olympic sport – but I didn’t guess that she was going to try the vault first! But after watching Simone Biles on the vault during the 2016 Olympics, I can understand why she’d want to! I might suggest she starts with some somersaults on the floor! The vault is also called a horse – maybe because there is a sport in the horse-riding world where athletes do gymnastics […]
