Carrots

Carrots are a root vegetable – so the colorful crunchy part that we usually eat is hidden under ground. Usually they are orange, but they can also be red, yellow, white, or purple! I’ve had all of the colors and I can tell you they don’t taste exactly the same. People have been eating carrots for at least 4,000 years, but they’ve only been eating orange carrots for about 400 years. Orange carrots were developed by Dutch carrot growers for their king’s family – which was called the House of Orange!
